Shelia Ferguson, Owner - Staff Bios

Known as one of the beauty industry’s biggest ambassadors, Sheila Ferguson became involved with Redken in 1974.  She channeled her passion for the model room to pave the ambitious career she has created for her 5^th Avenue Elite Redken Salon, known as Hair Benders Salon in Kingsport, TN. 

Kingsports KOSBE awarded Shelia with Women Entreprenuer of the Year Award in 2010.  This is an honor and local recognition that is one of Shelia's most prized possessions to date.

For the fourth year in a row, Hair Benders Salon has been titled as one of the fastest growing salons in the country by Salon Today Magazine.  In 2010, Hair Benders won two awards: one for Technology and one for Growth.  In 2009, Hair Benders Salon was named one of the Top 200 Fastest Growing Salons in the country by Salon Today Magazine. In 2008, the salon was awarded “Best Style” by the same magazine. These are accomplishments that Ferguson does not take lightly. As a matter of fact, it serves as a motivational tool for more on her platform. 

Shelia was a stylist this year at New Yorks City's largest fashion Show in History.  Fashion Night Out was held at the Lincoln Center.  This was a colaboration of the major fashion houses in the world in one amazing night of fashion.

During her stout career Ferguson has been appointed for two terms by Governor Don Sundquist to serve on the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology.  Also she is a member of the National Interstate Council of Cosmetology.  And in 2003 Ferguson was given a National Leadership Award from the National Republican Congressional Committee and named the Honorary Chairman, Business Advisory Council. 

It is clearly her organizational skills and leadership ability coupled with her outgoing personality that makes her one of the industry’s greatest.  Never missing a Redken training, she always takes the job seriously and has a strong sense of pride to be involved in “Behind the Scenes.”

Ferguson has worked with Redken greats like Sam Villa and Chris Barron on all levels as a model room coordinator.  She is one of the industry’s masters in color and design. 

Her love for this industry is contagious and is reflected in everything she does.

When Faberge named Ferguson as the First Prize contest Winner in the third annual “Babe Look” contest in 1979, Ferguson’s career exploded with aspiration.  She began working M.R.C. in 1984. She has received the awards “You Are A Star” and “Best Support” for her M.R.C. work. She has had the honor to work symposiums many times as well as east shows and caravans.  And in 2002 Redken Education awarded Ferguson with an Executive Shooting Star Award for inspiring all others to perform at their best. She has also been to many classes at the Redken Exchange. Some of these include "Design and Color", "Cut and Know Why!", "Session Skills and Photo!", "Coloring Out of Your Mind!", "Mixing It Up...Formulation!", "On The Cutting Edge", and "Everything's Included 2".

All of these have assisted in her crusade to keep our industry standards high.  She’s a true professional, and is always available to coach and encourage her staff of 15.  Her special insight, organizational skills, in charge attitude and style make her the perfect fit for creating an upbeat and professional model room.  Ferguson's impressive blend of artistic and technical skills make her one to watch for what will come next.
